World Environment Day marked with cleaning campaigns and waste exhibition

To commemorate the 29th Birth Anniversary of Her Majesty, the Gyaltsuen, the Royal Society for Protection of Nature with our partners from various sectors had jointly organized cleaning campaigns and waste sensitization in Gelephu, Phobjikha and Thimphu. The cleaning campaigns were dedicated to Her Majesty as a special offering from the people on Her Majesty’s Birth Anniversary. During an address on World Environment Day 2018, Her Majesty had said “For any initiative to be successful, dedication and consistency is essential. We must all remind ourselves that our actions on the World Environment Day should not remain symbolic, standalone activities, but instead must be practiced every day.”

The cleaning campaigns would be a wonderful commitment and offering from all of us to Her Majesty.

Following the cleaning campaigns, RSPN together with Bhutan Cancer Society, Gelephu Thromde and Sarpang Dzongkhag marked the World Environment Day with a waste exhibition in Gelephu. The exhibition was held to create greater awareness about the harmful effects of waste on human health and the environment through posters and banners. Besides, the art competition on the theme “Reducing Air Pollution” among Gelephu Thromde, various environment-friendly activities were some of the highlights of the exhibition. The two-day event received immense support from Y-VIA volunteers, teachers, civil servants and the community people. We would like to highly acknowledge Y-VIA students and teachers from Sarpang Central School, Dekiling Middle Secondary School, Chokorling Lower Secondary School, Norbuling Central School and Pelrithang Middle Secondary School for the support.
