Understanding the impact of Climate Change on Water Resources of Bhutan

With an objective to mitigate the impacts of climate change on water resources in the mountain ecosystem, three-day workshop (February 9-11) was held at Paro.

Presentations on measures to fight such impacts were made by the participants from India and Nepal, which were relevant to Bhutan. Besides, participants were also briefed on the intact water scenario in the country and the policies executed.

Addressing the opening of the session, the Director of Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, said that over the years water resources in the country has depleted thus picturing the climate change. He further stated that its impact would hit hard, the mountain eco-system.

The workshop adopted the resolutions to develop E-group networking among the water professionals in order to bring in light, issues apropos the water. Furthermore, it was also resolved that the group would mutually work together to perk-up the spring water and the adjacent land along the Paro-Thimphu Highway.

The Executive Director of RSPN thanked SaciWATERs for shouldering the workshop and further assured full support for future collaborations. Accordingly, the Executive Director of SaciWATERs also thanked the RSPN for successfully executing the workshop.

The workshop was attended by twenty-five mid level water professionals from various government and non-government organizations. It was organized by the RSPN with fund from SaciWATERs.
