MEET THE SPEAKERS-PEER Bhutan Symposium 2023 Technical Session II

Technical Session II

We have three intellectual speakers from diverse backgrounds and they are:

1. Mr Chenga Tshering  will present his research topic on “Impact of Climate Change on Alpine Timberline and its socioeconomic impact on Highlanders in Bhutan”.

Mr. Tshering is a Principal Forestry Officer under the Department of Forestry and Park Services. He has coordinated research and outreach projects such as the Himalayan Environmental Rhythms Observation and Evaluation System, Global Learning and Observation to Benefit  Environment and Partnership for Enhance Engagement in Research.

2. Mr. Tony Kim will present his research topic on “NASA advancing STEM in Bhutan through increased Earth Observation Capacity”.

Mr. Kim has served as the SERVIR Project Manager since 2028 and has worked for NASA since 1990. His past project management activities include NASA’s Centennial Challenges Program, Nuclear Thermal Propulsion, Deep Throttling Lunar Engines, 3D-Printing Space Habitats and rocket engines, Helio-telescopes, Lightning Sensing from Uninhabited Aerial Vehicles, International Space Station and Spacelab Payload Operations, and advanced propulsion technologies.

3. Mr. Sangay Tshering will present his research topic on “DNA Barcoding and Phylogenetic Analysis of Bats of Bhutan”.

Mr. Tshering is a lecturer at CNR. He started working on bats in 2016 while pursuing his MSc. in Environment Management from Forest Research Institute(Deemed University), Dehradun, India.
