Aiming to restore 50 hectares of degraded forest in the White-bellied Heron Landscape, the ongoing BMUV-IKI initiative involves planting 12.5 hectares of land each year. This restoration work will protect the herons’ habitat and aid the environment by reducing the effects of climate change.
The team from RSPN is currently engaged in field verification of proposed plantation sites received from community forest groups and individuals, along with representatives from the Department of Forest and Park Services of the respective territorial Division offices. A method of carrying out plantation in Community Forests and Private Lands has added value in increasing the life of the community, which plays a vital part in the protection of the species.
More than 12.5 hectares of plantation activities were supported by RSPN in the first year of the project’s duration.
The activity is part of the ongoing project funded by the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), Germany through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and co-funded by MAVA foundation, Switzerland, and RSPN.
